Perhaps most impressive are the four big hits at the Meadow, Sunrise, Eagle and River pavilions. Water tanks are used to supply water to the gardens and other landscaped areas of the medical city. Heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment provides protection from the weather, which increases the efficiency and service life of the equipment.
Defense Department officials expect the eligible beneficiary population to increase to more than 220,000, about 40 percent of retirees and their family members covered by the health care system. WASHINGTON — Veterans Service officials said 66 percent of their medical centers across the country improved last fiscal year, and 18 reached the top of the department's internal rating system.
But nine others remain on the VA's list of underperforming facilities after receiving the lowest rating. They include the Washington VA Medical Center, which is just a few miles from the White House and has seen a series of leadership shakeups in recent years.
The VA rankings — compiled in 2016 after USA Today reported on internal scorecards — rank each location on metrics such as patient mortality, patient length of stay, reported accidents and patient satisfaction. Officials said the system is used to collect best practices from high-quality facilities for use in low-quality facilities.
