glock 34 gen5 mos

Glock 34 Gen5 Mos - The new Carry Optics department is constantly growing. Locally, more people participate in games that have a shotgun slide point. The Everyday Carry and "tactical" world is where the slide becomes the primary optic.

The Glock G34 Gen 5 MOS is an excellent choice for the Carry Optics Division and fits well with the Production Division.

This emerging technology of sliding optics will be a part of the shooting world for a long time for several good reasons: dot sights are faster than using traditional iron sights; people focus on threats and targets rather than frontal vision, so optics are more natural than vision; points let nature take its course when it comes to shooting guns, and it's easier and faster. Another thing is that time flies for all of us; vision deteriorates and seeing the dot is easier for older eyes. Being in the midst of my mid-life crisis, I'm an authority on failing eyesight.

Another factor is that most gun people love tech. They think optics and guns are great, and rightly so.

Glock has a proven track record in the competition and carry arenas. This gun will definitely continue that trend.

When Jake told me he had the Glock G34 Gen 5 MOS ($721.99, Brownells.com ) on the way for review, I was less than thrilled. Everyone in the shooting world is familiar with Glock pistols and probably has strong feelings about them in some way. A few feet away from me are several Glock pistols in a case. They shoot well, but I don't carry it. I would describe myself as not a fan but not a hater when it comes to Glock. Does this Gen 5 MOS affect my position on the Glock?

At first glance, the Gen 5 Glock G34 looks very similar to previous versions. The Gen 5 has the same adjustable front sight and rear sight as the Gen 3, and adjustable/interchangeable backstraps, which is a good idea for any gun (and becoming standard in the polymer frame world). The light/sub rail is the same as previous versions, and the magazine release and slide release are the same size and shape as previous models. However, the Gen 5 has a two-way slide. Kudos to Glock for thinking of the competition, left-handed and weak shooters who can handle this gun. The handle is thinner than the 3rd generation and the finger grooves are gone. It fits the hand better than the 3rd generation. Does the fit and feel perform well on the range?

The Glock G34 Gen 5 MOS has a longer barrel and larger dimensions for placement.

The slide is one area that has changed. The Gen 5 does not have an open top slide behind the front sight. The end of the rifle has a solid, full slide machined to accept the optic between the ejection port and the rear sight. The sliding cover is fixed with two screws, which can be removed to replace it with an adapter plate according to the required optics. The test model came with a Glock MOS adapter kit consisting of four adapter plates, a set of screws, and a small tool for mounting the floor plate and optics. (An adapter kit is required and comes with the gun.) Glock is definitely working in this area; Now I'm starting to shift more to the Glock fan side of the spectrum. But what did he call it?

After getting the 5th generation, I went out to the range and fired a few shots through the rifle. The iron sights required no adjustment at all and seemed to work well at 10, 15 and 25 yards for group shots. My 3rd generation does well in this type of 3 shot as well, but not so well in matches and rapid fire drills. However, at this point there was no evidence that the Gen 5 was a non-shooter.

This year I started my range training with long range shooting practice with a Glock G34 or G17 with fixed targets from 30 to 50 yards. The beginning of the year was very simple, but things are getting better. I have used this 5 Gen in this role several times and have found it to be very accurate at distance every time I have used it in practice. With the iron sights it shot well and was better than the 3rd gen. The trigger is a bit better and seems to fit my hand better. I have increased confidence in the accuracy of this rifle, but have no experience in similar match situations.

The next challenge was a rifle competition held at the Riley Conservation Club in May. After the match, I wore the 5th generation and ran each stage again to get points. The format of this match had to be disguised by using a hit-factor scoring system with low point values for targets. I beat the game with a shotgun, but I wanted to see how the 5th gen would compare. I've already shot stages and had the privilege of not having the pressure of actual matches, so it may not be an apples-to-apples comparison, but the match will be under similar conditions and tests.

I pre-sketched the Gen 5 and didn't take it off the case or the watch for a more detailed drawing. I was tired of running too, I scored on every shot during the game. My total time with the gun was 42.60 seconds with 46 alphas and nine charlies for the match. Gen 5 beat this score with a total game time of 39.03 seconds and 41 alphas, 13 charlies and deltas. As Buffalo Springfield says, something's going on here: this 5th generation works better than my gun. Maybe my normal attitude towards Glocks is messed up; 5th generation works well.

Jake Martens and I met up at the Riley Conservation Club in July and tested this 5th generation with a USPSA style shoot. Jake shoots a Gen 5 equipped with a Vortex Viper 6 MOA red dot optic for Carry Optics. I shot with iron glasses, as found in the production department.

The first practice we shot was Front Sight, three full-sized targets 10 yards apart, with a full yard between each target. My production runs were 2.89, 3.48 and 3.01 seconds and the three attempts were pathetic for 26, 22 and 20 points. A low score makes things more difficult and accuracy is at a premium. Meanwhile, Jake did it in 3.22, 3.01 and 2.69 seconds. His scores were 26, 22 and 20. Yes, the results are very similar and correct. We received notes. Over the years, Jake and I have achieved similar results on stage and in matches, while working in very different ways. Strange, but true.

The next stage of the test was Bill Drill. Production runs were 2.38, 2.28, 2.39 seconds and scored 28 points per run. Jake had 2.52, 2.31 and 2.42 seconds; his scores were perfect in the first two rounds, but the third was a wild 22. Jake pulls the trigger faster than I do, but I usually keep it on the side on the draw and I'm used to that style of holster. I believe these factors played a role during this exercise.

After a few grab and rip exercises, we moved on to near-to-far drills. The distance to the near target was 10 meters and the distance to the far target was 30 meters, which split the difference between the other two targets. My first two production jobs were embarrassing. Times were 4.44 and 4.72 seconds, not great, but 14 and 21 points make for good times. I took out the second and third targets, but I hit from long range. How does he slowly achieve his goals? I cannot explain it; however, I do this all the time, so the anger level was raised the third time. I was determined to get a hit. Time 5.40 seconds, 38 points. You do your part and the gun does its part. Why repeat this lesson so often?

Jake stepped up and tried to improve my Near to Far. His Carry Optics times were 5.07, 4.47, and 4.82 seconds, but the scores were less than stellar, finishing 24th, 16th, and 22nd. Kind of
