Cody Johnson said he waited his whole life to play at RodeoHouston. But it is not allowed to happen this year.
Johnson was a last-minute replacement for Old Dominion, who stepped down on Monday due to a death in the family of a member.
The rodeo racer and superintendent has taken advantage of the opportunity and turned NRG Stadium into the largest Texas arena in the world.

Wednesday is also Veterans Appreciation Day, and many service members are in the hall. Johnson took time to thank the first responders.
"Honestly, I don't care who you vote for. We still live in the greatest country in the world," he said.
Johnson was born in Sebastapol, a small dot on the east side of the Trinity River, and raised in Huntsville. He made a name for himself all over Texas with a strong traditional sound.
"Do you still believe in country music?" he asked a crowd of 60,011. Cue a shout of approval.

Johnson's sixth album, "Gotta Be Me," was released in August and continued to spread his sound beyond the borders of Texas. It debuted at number 2 on Billboard's Country Albums chart and at number 11 on the Billboard 200 all-genre chart.
He has a booming voice that sounds like George Jones at times. He adds more realism to his songs, including "I'm Not Going Anywhere Baby", "Turn Me On" and "The Only One I Know (Cowboy Life)".
The fun of "Grass Stains" and "Me and My Style" could be the sound of Brad Paisley's radio. But Johnson's inspired Lone Star solo on "Texas Kind of Way" is his. Cody Johnson said some dirty words, got drunk, and did some things he didn't want to talk about at the dinner table. As a young man, circumstances made him abandon his childhood dream of riding a cow and reconsider his future.
"I don't want to talk about things like that," admits the Texas country singer, now 34. "But you think, 'Well, we all have imperfections. That doesn't mean you can't influence people well.' I gave the microphone, if you can turn a failure into something positive, you haven't really failed."

The hard way has brought Johnson to where he is now - a national artist with more than two billion streams to his work, a new novel and two albums.
Taya Kyle, Chris Kyle's wife and Johnson's producer, Trent Willmon, are available on Apple TV + from October 8. After that, "Good Rodeo" will be available everywhere.
"Good Rodeo," a duet Johnson wrote with McEntire, inspired the novel. The series follows husband and wife Chris Kyle from their first love for rodeo through their decision to leave the ring to pursue the careers that made them famous.
"There's a vertical line that shows we're small in a big world," said Shane Tarleton, documentary producer and president of film development at Warner Music Nashville. "There's this high energy, but just when we think we've figured it out and everything is falling apart, there's a bigger plan. There's comfort in knowing that things don't end here."

The documentary has been in the works for two years and is based on conversations surrounding the "Good Rodeo" music video. Tarleton thinks music is the best
